our good deed
well, me and my sister gave our last 10 dollars to some homeless people...it was the last cash we had on us. i have NO money and am overdrawn at the bank. i am not released to go back to work until oct 17th so i havent had a paycheck since july. im broker than broke. but my sister and dad have been taking care of me. anyways. yesterday we went to the fair. i have been really down and out lately. but after the fair we went to the Checkers (drive thru fast food place) it is by the Greyhound station in Macon Ga. south of Atl. alot of homeless people live there, and hang out around it. My sister is a nurse and works for a state owned drug rehab center in macon. Crime is terrible in the city, and drugs are the main cause of it all the detox facility she works for is a joke, they dont treat people, its just a money scam the courts throw people there to dry out and them send them back to the streets.
So she has a very tender heart, she couldnt work for the nursing homes anymore because she hated seeing the old people being mistreated, and no she sees these homeless people being mistreated. So anyways...we roll thru the checkers in our minivan. There are homeless people all around us and it is just sad. I just cry and tell her how lucky we both are even though I feel so depressed all the time, I have alot to be thankful for. It could always be worse. So one guy asks for some money while we are waitin in line. She knows he is only going to buy drugs with it, so she offers to buy him something to eat instead. he thanks her and she buys him a meal. We pull on up and pay for the food. then another guy asks for some money. She asks the lady at the window for change for her ten. Gets the money and gives the guy some along with another lady laying by the van. they were very appreciative and even though we are pretty sure they were cracked out and on drugs (had meth sores) we felt like we had done our good dead for the day. She laughed and said if nothing else, she just helped buy them some drugs, and they would probably help keep her in a job. We pulled out. and BAM. someone rammed right into us. We were jarred pretty bad, and I was hysterical worrying about Savannah. She was in her carseat and didnt even cry. but i was still worried she had been shaken or jarred too much. The boy that hit us was 18 years old, and didnt want us to report it, he had no license. He was in his moms car, and asked if he could go and get her before the cops got there. I was already hysterical, and I didnt know he had told my sister all of this and her being the kind hearted person she is told him it would be okay. So he went and got his mom and she said she was driving. at least now their insurance will pay. im sure they wouldnt if he had said he was driving. so we did two good deeds yesterday but broke the law :( I got alot out of it. #1 I realized how lucky i am and things could be worse. #2 I realized how lucky I am even when things get worse it could always be ALOT worse. We are blessed that we were not hurt, just sore and shook up from the wreck.

Kudos to you Candi.
I'm a strong believer to step out of the bubble and when you think your life is so miserable you will find someone in worse shape than you. Then you will count your blesssings. I dislike giving homeless money although I have in the past driven back through the drivethrough and bought someone on the street a combo meal for food. Some where more than grateful, others you could tell wish they had the money to spend on "other things"

Great way to saty positive Candi! You could have handled it much differently, but you looked up at what was good rather than what you didn't have.
I sure hope that you are okay from the wreck. Babies are very protected in car seats, thank goodness for that! Your sister is certainly compassionate and it is easy for you to be when you are around her. Strength in numbers! Only time will tell what comes of letting him get his mom. As long as your expenses are paid, that is a blessing and worth the chance. I must agree with you Cas that i hate giving money to people on the street. Here in Victoria we have such nice weather that we attract a lot of homeless and some of them are very agressive. One was arrested about 6 months ago and he had nearly $4000 on him! He obviouslly could be doing something with it other than the drinking that he reeked of! I'd buy someone a meal. When they refuse, I know that my money is better kept in my own pocket than in that of a dealer or a liquor store.
